The story revolves around a man who moves back into his childhood home. He had sweet memories and bitter memories inside that house as a child - being the last house he shared with his terminally-ill mother, as well as where he first saw the specter that would go on to haunt him for his whole life. Soon, he quickly realizes that the specter still lingers in the house and confronts it, chasing it to the backyard. At the same time, in the past, his younger self is being chased by the same specter. They both end up in the backyard, and the specter fades away in both timelines, leaving his younger self scared and his older self looking down at his mother’s grave.

The basic idea is that the specter is a manifestation of his own fear of losing his mother, and lingered throughout his life as it fed on his trauma after her passing. As it was a being of his own creation, he really was fighting against and being haunted by himself his whole life. I tried to illustrate this with the chase sequence that jumped between his past self being chased and his present self chasing, all culminating at a stand-off between his two selves at the tree. It was only at the end, when the protagonist finally faced his mother’s grave that the specter disappeared, implying that he was finally able to face and accept his mother’s passing. I enjoy the bittersweet conclusion, that he spent his entire life fighting something that wasn’t real, but at least now he is finally freed from its haunting presence and can move on with his life.
